The Herd
For Burning Man 2019
A herd of legs, it’s a huge sculpture group made out of steel. Not quite animal neither human, walking through the desert in an unknown direction. Each pair is a unique sculpture, together they form a close-knit group. At night the herd is lit by animated lights, appearing and vanishing into the dust.

The legs are a climbable playground, all citizens of black rock city are welcome to climb up to 15 ft into the legs nest. Some legs are more accessible than others, some require teamwork and some are accessible to those with mobility challenges through lifts with hoist mechanisms.
You could get lost among the legs or relax under their shade. At night a set of synchronized colored flood lights will light up the herd, producing the illusion of motion by illuminating a sequence of sculptures at different phases of their walk cycle.
Whenever an art car with an overpowering sound system is nearby, the lighting will sync to its beat. A live performer could plug in to the sound system at any time. A specifically designed sound mix will be played, low bass sounds that will vibrate through the metal and be synced to the lights.
